Plaid Integration & Security

Learn how Find Your Deductions uses Plaid to securely connect to your bank accounts.

What is Plaid?

Plaid is a financial technology company that enables applications to connect with users' bank accounts securely. Used by over 8,000 companies including Venmo, Robinhood, and Coinbase, Plaid is the industry standard for secure bank connections.

How Plaid Works

When you connect a bank account:

  1. You authenticate directly with Plaid – Your bank credentials are never sent to Find Your Deductions
  2. Plaid verifies your identity – Through your bank's own authentication process
  3. A secure token is created – This token allows us to request transaction data
  4. Transactions are fetched – We receive read-only access to your transaction history

Security Measures

Your Credentials Are Protected

  • Find Your Deductions never sees or stores your bank username or password
  • All authentication happens directly between you and Plaid
  • Plaid uses bank-level 256-bit encryption

Read-Only Access

Our integration with Plaid is strictly read-only:

  • We can view transaction history
  • We cannot move money or initiate transfers
  • We cannot access account numbers or routing numbers

Data Encryption

  • All data is encrypted in transit using TLS
  • Data at rest is encrypted using AES-256
  • We follow industry best practices for data security

Plaid's Certifications

Plaid maintains rigorous security certifications:

  • SOC 2 Type II certified
  • Regular third-party security audits
  • Compliance with financial data protection regulations

Managing Your Connections

You're always in control of your connected accounts:

  • View Connections – See all connected accounts in Settings → Accounts
  • Disconnect Anytime – Remove any connection with one click
  • Re-authenticate – Update connections if your bank requires it

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my bank supported?

Plaid supports thousands of banks, credit unions, and financial institutions. If yours isn't supported, you can upload transactions via CSV.

Why do I need to reconnect sometimes?

Banks periodically require re-authentication for security. This is normal and doesn't affect your existing data.

What happens if I disconnect?

Your previously imported transactions remain in your account. Only new transaction syncing stops.
